Renmin Gongyuan - The People's Park

Renmin Gongyuan, or People's Park, is just west of Tianfu Square in the center of Chengdu. This 100,000 square meter park offers many flowers and landscapes, a large lake, a bonsai rockery, waterfalls, a playground and a tea house. The Monument to the Martyrs of the Railway Protection Movement (1911) commemorates an uprising of the people against officers who pocketed cash raised for the construction of the Chengdu to Chongqing line. Since, at the time, People's Park was a private officer's garden, it was a fitting place to erect the monument.
